New Castle County clay heaves when it freezes, a patio thrown on dirt and sand lasts about three winters. Ours go on six inches of compacted stone, drain at the right pitch, and look the same in season ten as they did in season one.

6-Step Lawn Fertilization
Program for Delaware Lawns.
A 6-step lawn fertilization program built on the actual Delaware calendar. Crabgrass pre-emergent goes down between Mar 15 and Apr 15, when the forsythia hits full bloom and the soil holds 55 to 58 °F, per UDel Cooperative Extension. Aeration and overseed runs Aug 15 to Sept 30. Six timed visits keep tall fescue ahead of the weeds and the heat, instead of chasing them all summer.
